On the set of Gothika in 2003, Downey met producer Susan Levin, executive vice president of production for Joel Silver’s film company, Silver Pictures. Although Susan turned down his romantic advances twice, she and Downey quietly formed a romance during filming. The couple married in a Jewish ceremony in Amagansett, New York, in August 2005. As a tribute to her, she has “Suzie Q” tattooed on one of her biceps. The Downeys had their first child, a son named Exton Elias, in February 2012, and their second child, a daughter named Avri Roel, in November 2014. Mel Gibson and Downey have been friends since they co-starred in Air America.

After meeting Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of Firstborn in 1984, Downey began dating her. Due to their drug addiction, the couple divorced in 1991. After a Forty Two day courtship, he married actress and singer Deborah Falconer on 29, May 1992. Indio Falconer Downey, their son, was birthed in September 1993. Downey’s repeated trips to rehab and jail finally strained their marriage; in 2001, in the midst of Downey’s final arrest and extended stay in rehab, Falconer left Downey and took their son with her. On April 26, 2004, Downey and Falconer finalized their divorce.
